i had recently posted this on my facebook page.
because this site here has not been invented then.
but i feel like it should be here now:
it’s an exercise i have put together for myself.
it stems from invert paradiddle, so the double stroke rolls go „off-beat to downbeat“.
then the accents (rim shots) get more and more close together, until we got a single stroke roll between rim shots and kick drum.
and then back to top.
i usually start really slow, and try to gradually break the sound barrier of course 🙂
sticking could / should be reversed at times of course. accents can be placed around the kit (duh).
oh, and the hihat adds a nice groove, and well, a challenge as well.
in this category i will post some cadences and exercises i made up or transcribed.
first up is the latest one i did.
the track is called 777-9311.
it was recorded in the early 80’s by a great funk band called „the time“.
allegedly, prince programmed the drum track on a drum machine called „linn“.
