addendum to the kit i made from acrylic shells, with pearl parts and bits (see right here):
this is what it looks like boxed up for travel.
the back pack contains only textiles for me to wear 🙂
oh, yes, hihat and three cyms 15-18″ are hiding in that snare case as well.
shortly after the 10″ and 12″ super-flat acrylic snares, i got hooked on flat drums entirely.
so between summer 2007 and spring 2008, i made a whole stack of acrylic drums, about 9 in total.
about the suspension system and rack i should maybe talk in „technology“ at some point.
here’s a glimpse of what one set-up looked like:
from the top, it is hard to tell the depth, right? it’s 14 x 2.5″ snare, 10×2, 12×2.5 and 14×3 toms, 20×8 kick.
again, i got some ideas from these experiments.
like, how to make the rack system, so the bass drum would not touch the ground. more about that later in that other category.
here a look from the side:
now, a sound file would be nice to have, wouldn’t it?
this was recorded with a zoom h2, about three meters in front of the band, above the heads of the audience. no amplification for the drums at all:
here is the second drum i ever thought out, from early 2007.
i had found that small snares sound great.
but they usually are offered with shells that are too deep for my taste…so i had to:
it is a 12″ by 2″ acrylic snare, shell made for me by wahan, drillings and hardware application by me. made to sound not only high pitched, but also super fast in snare-head response, and not so many ringing overtones. to match my sound design for drum&bass, and styles like it.
